Why not give your choral department the opportunity to "Keep The Whole World Singing" by sponsoring a community sing-along?
Invite a local community chorus to help with the event. (In our situation, we collaborated with the Akron Derbytown Barbershop Chorus. We have decided to make it an annual event because of the positive response we received from the community!)
Prepare for your chorus to perform one song, and invite the visiting chorus to perform one song. After the two opening numbers, provide time for everyone to sing along with the choruses as they sing well-known American folk songs. Then, divide the audience into groups. Assign each group the responsibility to learn one part for two or three songs. At the conclusion of the practice session, return to the gym/auditorium.
The grand finale for the event will be when the choruses and audience join together for the purpose of singing American folk songs in perfect harmony!
