Just want to share an idea that worked oh so well today. I borrowed 5 cones from the gym teacher and taped an eighth note, quarter note, half, dotted-half, and whole note to the cones. Kids were marching around the cones until the music stopped (musical chair style). I had them freeze and reach out to touch the nearest cone. I then called out one of the 5 notes. Kids who were touching that cone were "out." The game continued as kids and cones were eliminated. Kids were marching to the beat, learning their note names, and having a great time. I plan to use them again to review dynamics, symbols, terms, etc. Kids were pleading for more!
