I set up two LONG tables in my classroom and covered them with Thanksgiving table cloths, with a centerpiece of flowers and some other decor. When the students arrive, I have a Thanksgiving song playing. The students are seated and we pass around a "pumpkin" (small gourd). As each student holds the pumpkin, they can give thanks for something that is special to them (i.e., parents, friends, school, etc. Even those with religious convictions can do this activity... everyone should be thankful). Next, I teach them the song as they are sitting at the table. Several students at a time are chosen to walk around the table with me and play instruments to the song, as the others sit and sing. Lastly, they choose someone to take their place walking around the table. We do this until everyone has a turn.
This is very fun for the students and a great and interactive object lesson!
