Here is the Food Script and Song List for my musical Food Program.
Chant/Game: "Mabel, Mabel, Set the Table"
Students chant "Mabel, Mabel set the table, don't forget the _________." The microphone is rather randomly placed in front of a student who supplies a short answer of something that is appropriate for the table.
Song: "The Food Pyramid" from Music K-8, Vol. 15, No. 2.
Four or more different readers read during the musical interludes between verses. (This has been simplified from the original version.)
Verse 1: The food pyramid is a chart of food groups. It is really shaped like a pyramid. The group we should eat the most of is called the "Grain Group." It includes bread, rice, cereal and pasta.
Verse 2: The Vegetable and Fruit Group is next to the Grain group. Both of these groups are very important and we should eat these every day.
Verse 3: The Milk Group is next to the Vegetable and Fruit Group. We don't need as much of this group. It includes milk, yogurt and cheese. Then comes the Meat Group which includes meat, fish, poultry, eggs, nuts and dried beans.
Verse 4: Fats, oils and sweets don't really make up a food group. Our bodies don't need very much of these and we should eat only a little of these. We should pay attention to the things we eat and drink to help us feel our very best.
