This year (2001) is the sixtieth anniversary of the USO Show. Begun in 1941, by President Roosevelt's direction, these shows have been performed all over the world for our service personnel. Originally begun as my fifth graders' concert to celebrate Veterans Day, due to recent events, and the actuality of our service men and women being called to duty, this theme has really been inspiring. Our superintendent and two principals will even perform on our "radio broadcast" of a show for the soldiers. Vets from our area have been invited to be special guests. Rosie the Riveter; Abbott and Costello's "Who's On First?" routine; the Andrews Sisters singing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"; and our fifth grade USO Chorus will all be part of our broadcast from radio station "W.B.U.D." "Kate Smith" will help us conclude the show as we sing "God Bless America"!
