A marching cone activity was posted that I thought was a great idea, so I tried it and then modified it. Just thought I would share. Colorado, as most states, is very focused on reading and math test scores, so we are trying to support that as much as possible in all content areas. So, I thought the marching cones would be a great way to use sight words. I got a list from our literacy teacher and made a set of cards with sight words. I then taped these to cones borrowed from the PE teacher and set them up around the room. When I stopped the music (I used March Around The Room from Hop Til You Drop), I pulled a sight word out of a basket and whoever was standing by that cone was eliminated. The kids really enjoyed it and asked to do it again when they came in today.
