As a warm-up to each recorder class, a student orally selects three notes (any three of ones we have learned). The pattern to play is always quarter, quarter, half note. Students watch me repeat the selected notes verbally and finger along, and then we play them. This can go on awhile as everyone wants to contribute ideas. Occasionally a smart student notices that I never said three DIFFERENT notes, and we have fun with that, too.
