For the past couple of years, I've done Carnival Of The Animals with my 6th graders. I don't teach the little ones, and I discovered that most of my students were not familiar with this music.
I've had them make torn paper fish/water creatures and paste them on blue butcher paper to make a mural. Very pretty, but it's amazing how "frozen" they are at first when I tell them that they won't have any scissors. Bless their hearts, their creativity has been stifled for so long!
Years ago, I had 2nd graders make a torn paper mural depicting a scene from Peter And The Wolf. My first experience with that was great.
