I discovered that if you use plastic-coated shelf liner, with the open weave, on a wooden or tile floor to strike the Boomwhackers® on, it sounds great. This is also the stuff used to back area floor rugs. I'm guessing the open weave might have something to do with it. I use it under my contra bass bars in our cafeteria when I do programs and it helps the resonance a lot. So I tried it with the Boomwhackers®, and they sound great. I use the Octavator™ Tube Caps and we strike on the end caps, but it also works if you're whacking Boomwhackers® flat. You just need a big enough piece of the shelf liner to make it work.
