Materials Needed: "Pizza Love" (from Music K-8, Vol. 8, No. 5) and pizza boxes (I used nine).
Opening Position: Three standing rows, on risers if possible, with the pizza boxes hidden in back row. I think we used three number one (#1) boxes, three number two (#2) boxes, and three number three (#3) boxes, alternating across the back. It's important that each box person know their number and that the people in rows one and two know which number they are to receive.
Choreography:
Measures 1-3: all face forward, relaxed position, snap on beat four as in recording
Measures 5-6: all angle right about 45 degrees, left hand points and "marks" 8 beats across, bodies end up facing forward
Measure 7: sign "love" on word (fists crossed on chest)
Measures 9-10: do opposite of measures 5-6
Measures 11: sign "love" on word (fists crossed on chest)
Measures 13-16: face forward, snap on the second and fourth beats of each measure
Measures 17-18: on first "pizza," #1 boxes held up just high enough to clear row two heads; on next "pizza," #2 boxes up high, on third "pizza", #3 boxes up at a medium level
Measures 19-20: on first "pizza," #1 boxes are passed to students in the second row, on the next "pizzas," #2 and #3 boxes do the same
Measures 21-22: on "love," all boxes in row two go to row one people, who HUG the boxes, pretending to be in love with them.
(Measures 17-22 are very effective in the finished product, but they must be carefully organized and rehearsed to be smooth and not interrupt the flow of the song. ON REPEAT, the direction is reversed, so boxes end up in the back row where they started. People holding boxes in front row may have to modify movements, but it will be obvious to audience why this is necessary.)
Measure 23: random sharp arm movements on "stop!"
Measure 24: nod heads, at random, four times
Measures 25-26: on beat one, back of left hand to forehead, on beat three (see), push right hand forward and pulse it for five beats
Measure 27: same as measure 23
Measure 28: one hand grab side of head on beat one, add other hand on beat three
Measure 29: mark beats by shaking head left/right/left/right while holding with both hands
Measures 30: two big fake crying sniffs on "piz-za" (beats one and two)
Measures 33-34: hands out at random
Measure 35: kiss fingers after "sauce" and throw gesture forward
Measure 36: make large circle with arms in front of body on "crusty dough"
Measure 37: one hand up toward heaven
Measure 38: other hand up at random, different level and angle
Measure 39: half of group sign "love" (fists crossed on chest) on beat one
Measure 40: other half group sign "love" (fists crossed on chest) on beat one
Measures 41-42: snap fingers on beat four
Measure 45 to end: I don't have this written down, so I guess the kids did free movement or added their own ending. If you make it this far, students should have plenty of ideas to choose from for an ending.
