"Blitzen's Boogie" is from Music K-8, Vol. 12, No. 2; also available as a Singles Reproducible Kit.
(Always jazz hands, wide open fingers.)
We snap with one hand on the hip in the beginning... looking very cool.
Counts 1-4: On "Dasher": we bring down our right hand to the side
Counts 5-8: On "Prancer": we bring down our left hand to the side
Counts 1-2: On "Comet": we throw our right hand up on our right side
Counts 3-4: On "Donner": we throw our left hand up on our right side
Counts 5-8: On "Do you, do you": we come down with our hands in a very cool fashion
Counts 1-8: (Two times) On "Blitzen": we start stepping side to side with snaps on counts 2 and 4
Counts 1-4: On "He's a boogie woogie reindeer": we twist down and back up
Counts 5-8: We throw both hands down to the side and freeze
Counts 1-8: Starting on "day": we do a box-pivot-step (see below)
We put our right foot out on 1 ("day"), pivot on 2, step to the left on beat 3, pivot on 4, then on beat 5 step another quarter turn, pivot on 6, on beat 7 step one more quarter turn to the left, pivot on 8, and end up facing front.
With this box step, I tell them their left foot is stuck to the floor and with their right foot, they are squishing spiders. We say, "Step, squish, step, squish, step, squish, step, squish." My 2nd graders do this very well with a little practice!
