Some of my students were having a grand ole' time in the gym today playing hopscotch, and it gave me an idea to play musical hopscotch! On the floor, mark a hopscotch pattern and designate each jump for a solfège syllable. For example, you may have:
- d -
t - i
- l -
- s -
- f -
m - i
- r -
- d -
("ti" and "mi" will take up two squares, side by side. That is where the kids have to jump with both feet.)
Play just like hopscotch. They have to toss a rock or coin and sing up the scale, and on the way back down, they have to pick up the rock or coin.
