I gave a survey to every adult in our school building. Here's what it said:
"March is Music in Our Schools Month. I'd like your help with something. Would you please take a minute and fill out the following survey for me? I'd like to use the answers in a musical 'Guess Who' for the students - a kind of 'How well do you know your teacher/staff?' game."
Then I listed eight questions. The answers were then made into a bulletin board for outside the music room door. It's titled, "Who Am I?" I took four of each person's most interesting answers, put them on a sheet of construction paper, and stapled it to another sheet underneath, which has the name of the teacher or staff person.
There have been lines outside my door of both students and adults reading. It has been a great way for our staff to learn more about each other and fun for the kids to find out which teacher likes country, who likes rock, and who used to star in their high school musicals. The last question on the survey was, "If you had a chance now, what would you like to learn in Music?" LOTS of people wrote, "I wish I had stayed with my piano lessons." That's good for those kids who need a little extra encouragement to keep practicing!
