I have multiple certifications in multiple states. I graduated with my degree in Russian Education and a minor in Music Education. My Master's degree is in elementary education, and I'm taking classes now to add ESL to my license. I'm also taking Spanish, not for licensure, but for fun and to enhance ESL.
So, in Ohio and Colorado, I am licensed to teach Russian K-12, Music K-12, and Elementary P-5, with TESOL K-12 forthcoming. In Kentucky and Illinois, I have most of these.
I still don't have a job, but everyone I've spoken to, including administrators, think that it is VERY smart to get additional licensure if you have music, art, or P.E. No one in any of my states in which I'm licensed teaches Russian, or at least there are no openings in Russian, so that one doesn't really play into anything.

I'm going to do it.
This summer I am going to Praxis into Early Childhood Ed.
It's really about opening possibilities for me next year. I get the
distinct impression (and have scheduling proof) that I will probably be bumped
to part time next year as will all the specials. I could be wrong, but it
looks VERY much like that.
So, I'm hoping that with additional certification it may open up positions
closer to home. My husband thinks its a great idea. He thinks that
teaching music the way I do (he implies I'm a little detailed oriented and anal
retentive here...*giggle*) that a classroom position may mean less work
outside of work. I guess we'll see what happens.
Do any of you have multiple certifications? What are your thoughts?
Anyone else considering doing something like this to be more marketable if the
occasion arises?
