I, who have taught elem. music, band and strings, was "bumped" into full-ti=
me kindergarten teaching awhile back. The classroom teachers kept tell=
ing me that my 30 ks were likely the hardest teaching job I'd ever had=
. Not really. As Martha's friend found out, classroom teaching is w-a-a-a-a=
-a-a-a-y-y-y-y-y-y-y less frenetic. Plus, you are actually considered a tea=
cher. It's a whole new status. You get quicker results from teaching becaus=
e you see them daily, and can reteach more immediately. You already us=
e what my ESE people called "great ESE teaching techniques" [Did you take a=
course in creative ESE teaching? Where did you learn how to do all t=
hat? Um..., it's pretty much standard 'music teacher' techniques.=
........] So I have kept my Primary / early childhood and elementary K-6 ce=
rtifications current. Â I feel it is MOL 'job security.' My school also=
uses it if there are IEPs scheduled and the regular classroom teacher is a=
bsent, so they do not have to reschedule in most cases.. I teach all the st=
udents - plus have experience and certification.
Good luck to all.

Subject: [MK8]To be a "regular" classroom teacher? Â Hmmm .
I'm going to do it.
This summer I am  going to Praxis into Early Childhood Ed.
It's really about opening  possibilities for me next year.  I get=
the
distinct impression (and have  scheduling proof) that I will probably =
be bumped
to part time next year as will  all the specials.  I could be wro=
ng, but it
looks VERY much like  that.
So, I'm hoping that with additional certification it may open up  posi=
tions
closer to home.  My husband thinks its a great idea.  He  th=
inks that
teaching music the way I do (he implies I'm a little detailed  oriente=
d and anal
retentive here...*giggle*) that a classroom position may mean  less wo=
rk
outside of work. Â I guess we'll see what happens.
Do any  of you have multiple certifications?  What are your thoug=
hts? Â
Anyone  else considering doing something like this to be more marketab=
le if the
occasion  arises?
