I've always been nervous about the adults who come into my room during
summer. Even they will plonk the bars if available.
So I'm more comfortable removing the bars and putting them in a separate
place. I also cover all my drums or store them when appropriate upside down
and push the npp cart up against the wall with the openings facing the
wall. Attractive nuisance and all that.

Back to bars: (Orff bars, not tiki bars)

For a couple of summers, I put all the bars in a single bucket. Uh.... no.
Heavy and impossible to sort out later.
Then I tried putting all the same bars in the same container. Uh..... no.
Too much running around to match bars and instruments.
Then I stuck them all in the instruments and didn't like that cuz I couldn't
vacuum the instrument easily and they rattled around inside and I wondered
what it was doing to the joinery of the boxes.
So it's more trouble to pack the bars the way I (get some kids to) do, but
it really protects the bars and it's a lot easier to figure out what bars
are missing or misplaced for which instrument and it's waaay easier to put
the bars back on in the fall. I posted how I do the bars in an earlier post
today, btw.

Just one person's thoughts.
