Elizabeth,
I prefer the Ed Sueta method, published by Macie Publishing. I'll try to
find the 800 number before I post this, the people are very helpful. The
recorders they sell are built especially for young people and have the
RH pinkie finger hole closer than most. The method has a piano
accompaniment book so you can adjust the tempo. They also include a
velcro pad for the RH thumb which keeps the kids from dropping them, and
insures proper hand placement. The instruments are of good quality.
The recorder method books are also printed on overheads, and you can get
CD or tape recordings. The CDs are my personal favorites. They also have
related materials; fun worksheets, reinforcement stuff, and so forth. Ed
also publishes some beginning band materials which I have used for
supplemental playing for my beginners bands.
Ed and associates came out to our ND Music Educators State Conference
several years ago and handed out free recorders and sample materials to
EVERYONE! This year we had him back as a presenter, and he is great, if
you are looking for someone to present in your area. He taught for many
years, so knows how things are "in the trenches".
***I can't put my finger on the 800 number, but the address is:
Macie Publishing Company
10 Astro Place, Suite 100
Rockaway, NJ 07866
I also us the Plank Road pieces, many of which are using only BAG, so
they make wonderful supplemental things, and along with the
accompaniments, they are fun and make good program pieces.
Good Luck!!
