Major Minor

From Plank Road Publishing

adapted/arr. Karl Hitzemann

Here's a very fun piece that illustrates the difference between a major key and a minor key. We have kept it simple, focusing on C major and C minor, and we have illustrated the concept very basically with, "major equals bright and happy; minor equals dark and sad." The tune is recognizable and easy to learn because it's an adaptation of the folk tune "Lavender's Blue." Setting the mood, the orchestration helps by having flutes, clarinets, staccato strings, a harpsichord, and chirping birds during the major sections; and french horns, legato strings, a pipe organ, and distant thunder during the minor section. Includes a bonus video!(from Music K-8, Vol. 17, No. 3; video created by Bill Belongia)
