My Hat It Has Three/Five Corners
From Plank Road Publishing
arr. Paul JenningsIncludes two songs: "My Hat It Has Three Corners" and "My Hat It Has Five Corners."
"My Hat It Has Three Corners" is an old folk song that goes back at least two centuries. It's a children's activity song. This arrangement sings through the tune five times, with new things to do in each verse (indicated in the music). It can be great fun for many grades.
But if your singers think that they are just too sophisticated for that tune, try "My Hat It Has Five Corners." It's a great way to introduce more complex meters to your classes, specifically 5/4 time. The arrangement features a slightly augmented big band, adding a tuba at the bottom to saxes, trombones, and flugelhorns, and a flute on the top. All of this in addition to our cool, laid-back rhythm section who are quite at home in 5. The kit includes a bonus five-verse accompaniment track, so you can do the activities with this version of the song, as well. (from Music K-8, Vol. 21, No. 4)
