Transcontinental Railroad
From Plank Road Publishing
by Teresa JenningsAs educational as it may be, this tune is a blast to perform! Characterized as "Stately Patriotic Western Folk," there are a number of neat sounds and textures that evoke the era, including iron spikes and old train sounds, not to mention the full orchestra with rock drums and beefy brass motifs. The verses are in unison and have a decidedly old-fashioned folk style which gives the song a storytelling vibe. At the chorus, it breaks into two parts, though the second part is optional. Telling the story of the Transcontinental Railroad, it's a great cross curricular tool! (from Music K-8, Vol. 29, No. 5)
