PROGRAM NOTES "The Tortoise and The Hare " is a program that gives students a chance to play-act the traditional Aesop's Fable. It is simple, with many parts, and is fun to do.

Scenery: This play may be done on a bare stage with signs indicating "WE'RE FOR HIPPITY," "WE'RE FOR TOMMY," etc. Or, you may wish to have a backdrop of a bright green meadow, easily painted by your art department.

Characters:

• Four Sports Reporters - boys/girls
• Referee Ronnie Rooster
• Hippity Hop Hare
• Tommy Tortoise
• Thirty-Eight Storytellers*
• Fans of Hippity - one half of the cast
• Fans of Tommy - other half of the cast

* If you have a smaller group of players, you may consolidate the speaking parts.

Costumes: The principle characters may have complete costumes or just suggested ones - i.e., long rabbit ears for Hippity, shell cap for Tommy, feathers for Ronnie Rooster, etc.
