Rainbow Christmas, A
by Teresa JenningsA Joyous Holiday Musical For Young Voices
Teresa Jennings' K-4 holiday musical weaves a tale that is full of humor and great music, and while it is secular in nature, it teaches a valuable lesson about acceptance.
It seems that all of the creatures who live in the Black and White Forest - the pandas, penguins, zebras, cows, skunks, doves, panthers, polar bears, crows, and other black and/or white animals - are preparing for their Christmas celebration. Everything in their forest is black and white, including their Christmas decorations. When they are approached by creatures of different colors who ask if they can join their celebration, the black and white characters flatly refuse, stating that the only acceptable things in the world are black and white. When Santa Claus and his reindeer (in all of their multi-colored glory - especially red and green) appear on the scene, the black and white creatures are confused. Santa and his crew explain that the world is full of different colors, and that they should be tolerant and accepting and share their world with others whose colors are different than theirs. The black and white creatures realize that their visitors are right and change the name of the forest to The Rainbow Forest and invite creatures of all colors to join them in their celebration.
