Shady Grove

This old folk song has had at least three melodies and more verses than one might care to count. It has been recorded by many different artists in a folk or bluegrass style.

We've chosen three of the most "kid-friendly" verses and set them to an upbeat, two-beat, two-part arrangement. And it's in a minor key. Part 2 is optional, and the kit includes a rehearsal track for it. The song is laid out in the traditional style with an instrumental break at the end of each verse/chorus group. During the instrumental sections, students get to stomp and clap. What fun! (from Music K-8, Vol. 27, No. 4)
