Pumpkin Puzzler
adapted/arr. Paul JenningsVariations of this simple movement song, based on "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," have been popular for over a century. Our adaptation of it is particularly charming, using a lighthearted classical approach that includes harpsichord, strings, and a smattering of winds as a backdrop. The melody states the "puzzle" the first and third times at measure 5, leaving the second time open for movement. (You could also have singers do the movements while they sing the third time if it isn't too difficult for them.) The most fun part is the very end of the song. Be warned though: The temptation to reveal the surprise ending a little early may prove too much for some of your youngsters! The song is ideal for your youngest singers in the fall, but don't let that limit you. It works most any other time of year, too. (from Music K-8, Vol. 30, No. 1)
