Winter Songs

A Collection For Young Singers

There are so many fun things to do during the winter months, aren't there? Sledding, making snow angels, ice skating, taking long walks in the snow, and... shoveling?? Well, most things in the winter are fun. But of course, not everyone has the same excitement about winter. We have all of these aspects covered in this wonderfully wintry collection. Includes:

  • Winter Walk - This beautiful Celtic piece is unison throughout and repetitive enough for your singers to pick up quickly. The poetic lyrics paint a picture of a crisp, cold winter's day, and a penny whistle and fiddle in the accompaniment recording play lilting melodies and countermelodies.
  • Blanco Es El Invierno - In a Latin jazz setting, this wintry song features first an English verse, followed by a Spanish verse. A 2-part bridge sets us up for verse three, which splits English and Spanish parts.
  • Here We Go A-Shoveling - This tongue-in-cheek adaptation of "Here We Come A-Caroling" was inspired by the rhythmic dance of shovel on driveway/plop of snow (over and over and over). Starting with a lovely chorale style introduction, it soon devolves into a pulsing grind, complete with scrapes and plops, punctuated with an anvil clank.
  • Stories In The Snow - The light, floating style of this lovely 2-part piece helps bring the poetry of the lyrics to life. The gentle Latin groove is punctuated by nylon guitar fills.
  • January Jumpin' - January. It's a tough month: cold, snowy, gray. Fear not. We have the perfect antidote to those ol' winter blues – movement! Here's a jazzy, lively, action-inspiring song that you can whip out on those blah days to energize your young'uns. You'll be treated to a super swingin' big band on the recording.
  • Ice Skating - Listen to this song and you'll almost be able to see kids skating around on a lake in a beautiful winter setting! In this gliding ballad with a halftime feel, the vocals are syncopated for much of the song, but it feels very natural.
  • Down The Hill - This song is just plain fun. And goofy. And even a little educational. Sung to the tune "Camptown Races," it enumerates but a few of the ways a kid can slide down a snow-covered hill. The song has a folksy boom-chick feel to it and includes some spoken dialog as well.
  • Winter, Begone - This lively swing tune offers an opportunity for those who would prefer any other season to vent their point of view musically, and hopefully a little humorously. Add a little pizzazz to the performance through the use of movement with the included choreography video.
