Big Round BAG
by M.C. Handel
We don't usually publish a piano part for our recorder features. However, in the case of "Big Round BAG," we felt that you or some of your students might be compelled to play piano. You will note that on the recording, the piano changes to the classic "boomba chucka" accompaniment, returning to the arpeggio figure during the interludes. Mix and match as you like if you play it yourself. At the end of the song, just build on a G (add 9) chord with the recorders, and add a button as a cut-off. You could also let Orff instruments, pitched percussion, bells, Boomwhackers®, etc., play root movement or double recorder parts.
It's true that this is a familiar-sounding piece, though the melody is unique. It only uses the notes B, A, and G, which is perfect for beginning recorders. To spice things up a bit, we made it a round so your students could show off their accomplishments as part readers. If playing it as a round is too much, too soon, don't do it. Just let everyone play part 1. At the end, just have them play the G.
