Teaching Music To Children
From Lorenz
by Blair BielawskiA Curriculum Guide For Teachers Without Music Training
This valuable resource is designed to give elementary teachers with no formal music training all of the tools that they need to help their students develop an understanding and appreciation for music. The book includes lessons, reproducible games, worksheets, and music puzzles. Also included is a mixed media CD that features over 60 minutes of music and a PowerPoint® presentation.
As students move through the lessons, they will engage in creating, performing, listening, and moving to music. The book follows a well-sequenced curriculum based on the National Standards for Music Education in the United States and the Ontario Curriculum for the Arts in Canada that gives teachers the content necessary to teach their elementary students the seven elements of music (pitch, rhythm, harmony, dynamics, timbre, texture, and form). Students will learn to identify instruments by their sounds, study famous composers, recognize a variety of musical genres, and understand basic music terms. (Grades 1-6)
